Founder, Lead Organizer
Jason Sawyer
PhD, MSW
Jason founded the Lab to support leaders, organizations, and communities in solving complex problems. Based on his experience working in communities, human service organizations, and higher education, he was driven to create a space which integrates applied research and thought leadership with intentional collaboration and practical transformation. His background in research and practice settings inspired him to create a company to bridge evidence and practical problem solving. He remains guided by the question, how can we effectively enrich communities and organizations to enhance individual and social wellbeing?
Throughout his career, he has worked in applied arts, community organization, non-profit program management, higher education, research, and consulting. He has conducted community engaged studies on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), the use of creativity in community organizing, adolescent suicide prevention, community practice model development, and the intersection of social welfare and social movements. He has published extensively in academic journals and textbooks, and recently published a co-authored book entitled A People’s Guide to Richmond and Central Virginia, which centers historic and contemporary social movement struggles throughout the region.
For over two decades, he honed his leadership skills in Community Organizing, Non-Profit Program Management, Higher Education, Policy Advocacy, and Research and Consulting. Contact him to see how the Transformative Solutions Lab can help your organization.
